My godmother’s nephew had committed suicide in the spring of this year. I believe he overdosed on medication. Long story short, I didn’t know Luis very much. My godmother said that his mother and father had not had any communication with him for years. That was the primary cause for his depression. Still, he was a warm and very friendly guy. At his funeral, my god sister played music from his laptop. It was a comfort to the family somewhat. My sisters and I instantly recognized one of the songs playing. It was a song entitled “Washed by the Water” by NeedtoBreathe.
After that day, that song has meant so much to me. I suffered from depression just like Luis did at one point in my life. Thank God for his mercy and grace upon me. In any circumstance, I know that I can run towards him. He will never forsake me. Sometimes I wonder where Luis would be right now if he realized what the lyrics truly meant.
Hebrews 10:22 says “let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”
Hebrews 13:5 says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
I pray that those who are attempting suicide or suffering of depression would take the time to accepted Christ into their hearts. Only then will you experience true happiness in this world that always growing more dark and more cold.
“Washed by the Water” by NeedtoBreathe
Even when the rain falls
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water
Even if the Earth crumbles under my feet
Even if the ones I love turn around and crucify me
I won’t fall as long as you’re around me
